A man, believed to be in his 40s, was left critically injured when he was hit by a bakkie on the N3 south-bound highway, near the pavilion turnoff in Westville, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the body of a man lying in the fast lane of the highway. The bakkie that had hit the man was found parked a few metres away.

Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries, which left him in a serious condition.

Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to stabilise the patient’s condition.

Once treated, the man was transported to Life Westville Hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the bakkie was assessed and found to have escaped injury.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
