Four people were injured this afternoon, two of them critically, when to light motor vehicles collided on Claredon Road in Discovery, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with the Provincial Services, arrived on the scene to find both vehicles on the side of the road. A man and young boy were found walking around on the scene while a ten-year-old girl was found seated in the rear of one light motor vehicle. A man was found lying trapped inside the other vehicle.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the young girl and entrapped man were both in a critical condition. The second man and young boy were found to have sustained minor injuries.

Fire services had to use specialised equipment to free the man from the vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions. The four patients were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
